Credit app for petrol pumps: who Khata Kavach fits, and who it does not

Short answer

Khata Kavach fits a petrol pump, of any oil company, that gives diesel and petrol on credit to regular customers who fill their own trucks and vehicles: transporters, fleet owners, bus and tractor owners, and contractors' machines. It also fits the transporter on the other side, who sends a request for each truck and sees every fill. At the nozzle, the nozzle man types the last 4 digits of the truck number and sees a green, amber or red light. It does not fit walk-in customers who fill for cash, or a pump that needs GST tax invoices or stock records from the same app.

MDG Services makes Khata Kavach, so this page comes from the maker of one of the apps it may mention. It is general information, not legal, tax or financial advice. Facts about other apps are taken from their own websites and app listings on the date shown and can change, so check them there before you decide.

The one test: do regular customers fill on credit?

Khata Kavach is a shared credit book between a petrol pump and its regular customers. It fits when the customer has a credit account and sends his truck, with his own driver, to your nozzle. This page is for a pump and its regular customers, not for money lent to a friend.

There are two apps. The Pump app is for the owner, managers and nozzle men. The Transporter app is for the regular customer, who by default sends a request before each truck fills. Both apps open in the phone's browser today. Android apps are coming to Google Play.

How the nozzle knows the truck

The nozzle man types the last 4 digits of the truck number and sees the light. He types the litres and the rupees off the dispenser. There is no rate list in the app: nothing is priced or converted. A truck number can be active with one transporter at a time.

Transporters (the customer's side)Buy diesel on credit for their trucks, and send a request for each truckYes: the pump adds them. See the transporter's view
Fleet owners, bus and tractor ownersFill their vehicles on credit at the pumpYes, the same way as a transporter
Contractors with machinesTheir machines fill at the pump on the contractor's creditYes, by the vehicle number, the same way

It covers the four fuels the pump sells: diesel, petrol, premium diesel and premium petrol.

Who it does not fit

  • Walk-in customers who fill for cash. It is for regular customers with a credit account.
  • A pump that needs GST tax invoices, stock or accounts from the same app. Khata Kavach makes a numbered bill, not a GST tax invoice. It does not track stock, nozzle readings or shifts, and does not file GST. Use pump or billing software for that: see how billing apps compare.
  • Anyone who wants someone else to carry the credit. You set each transporter's limit and you carry the credit. Khata Kavach never lends and never holds money. The transporter pays you directly and you record it.
  • Businesses that are not petrol pumps. Khata Kavach is built for pumps and their customers only.

What is the same at every pump

By default the transporter sends a request from his own phone. At the nozzle, the nozzle man sees a green, amber or red light. Both sides see every fill as one line once the phone is online, and a correction is a new line. The owner's Today screen shows credit given today, money received and who is near the limit.

A pump starts Khata Kavach on its own, in the Pump app with "Set up your pump", in about a minute. It then adds its own transporters. Hindi is the main language in both apps, with English one tap away.

Questions people ask

01Can a petrol pump of any oil company use Khata Kavach?

Yes. It is for pumps of any oil company and is not connected with any oil company. It covers diesel, petrol, premium diesel and premium petrol, by the litre.

02Can a transporter sign up for the Transporter app on their own?

No. The pump adds the transporter and sends an invite link on WhatsApp. The transporter reads the terms and agrees on his phone once, and can then send requests.

03Can a pump that also sells for cash use it?

Yes. Credit fills and money received go in the account. Cash fills do not become lines. When the light is red, the nozzle man can fill that customer for cash.

04What does Khata Kavach cost?

The price depends on your business. Call us on the number shown on this page. A person answers, 9am to 9pm, every day.
